Just another day perusing the Drawfriend features, when a title caught my attention. At first I thought it was "Welcome to the Machine," the title of one of Pink Floyd's greatest singles from one of their greatest albums. Having seen tribute art of the Floydian kind, I was surprised that it was not at all what I expected.
"Welcome to the Nightmare." This is not the first time I have seen a nightmare-Rarity, and to be honest I do not know where the idea came from or how it became so popular. But I will say that I like the idea of the bright, bouncy fashionista in a in a dark and morbid look such as this. Like Pink Floyd's music it makes me question the darkness that could reside inside of people, even one as bright as Rarity. I applaud the capturing of the evil, beckoning glare, especially in her eyes. You can definitely tell that Generosity does not matter much to this Mare of Darkness.
That all being said, this is not the finest artwork I have seen today. It didn't have that that flare that would have captured my attention. That bright, charismatic feel that, after sampling some of your older Deviations I can tell, you have quite a knack for. I dare say that if it were not for the title I might have passed this by and missed an opportunity. I'm glad I stopped for a look, though. The style is nicely done and the mood is cool and suitable. The only other "problem" I can think of (and at this point I'm just searching for criticisms) is that at first, I didn't even realize that was Rarity. I just thought it was Nightmare Moon after a perm or something. Maybe I'm just an idiot.
Ah well, I still like it and I'm glad I came across it. You can bet I sill add you to my watch list. I hope I continue to hear from you and that you keep up the good work.
Sincerely
